School Specialty's Security Entity, SSI Guardian, in Partnership With Campus Safety Magazine, Observes National Bullying Prevention Month in October With Online Discussion About Security Best Practices for Educational Settings

GREENVILLE, Wis., Oct. 8, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- School Specialty, Inc. (OTCQB:SCOO) ("School Specialty", "SSI" or "the Company"), a leading distributor of supplies, furniture and both curriculum and supplemental learning resources to the education marketplace, announced today that SSI Guardian, in collaboration with Campus Safety Magazine, will be presenting a webinar on Thursday, October 15 at 2:00 p.m. EDT on the importance of creating professional, actionable security plans for educational environments. Based on a comprehensive approach grounded in proven principles, attendees will learn how to make these principles work in a structured process during the free one hour session.

The webinar, "Protecting Your School: Are You Planning Properly?", will feature SSI Guardian experts guiding participants through the critical success factors in security planning for an educational setting, with an emphasis on awareness, preparedness and preservation. Planning situations include both active shooter and emergency operations and the benefits of a comprehensive approach in both. The right method will be compared/contrasted with what most schools do now to help participants understand their current planning gaps and provide recommendations on how to close them.

"In recognition of October as National Bullying Prevention Month, the SSI Guardian team is especially excited to participate in this insightful webinar on best practices for implementing the right school safety plan. With the tragic events we see happening on our nation's campuses, having the required knowledge and resources to better plan for and address these incidents has never been more crucial," stated Michael A. Yorio, President of SSI Guardian and Senior Vice President of School Specialty's Security Division. "Whether it's raising awareness of bullying behaviors, dealing with violence on a school bus, or managing an active shooter crisis, the security of our children, teachers and communities at large depends significantly on preparation, training and innovative tools acquired via SSI Guardian Advanced Safe School Training.
