LegalZoom Applauds North Carolina State Bar’s Efforts to Increase North Carolinians’ Access to Affordable, Quality Legal Help

LegalZoom and North Carolina State Bar Sign Consent Judgment Clarifying That North Carolina’s Doors Are Open to LegalZoom

RALEIGH, N.C., Oct. 22, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The North Carolina State Bar and LegalZoom have signed a consent judgment clarifying that LegalZoom is welcome in North Carolina.  The agreement resolves longstanding litigation between LegalZoom and the North Carolina State Bar, and allows LegalZoom to offer its two prepaid legal service plans to North Carolina residents.  It does not require any material changes to LegalZoom business practices, and is the realization of the enduring legal and political efforts of LegalZoom to increase North Carolinians’ access to affordable, quality legal help.

“We are delighted that the North Carolina State Bar has confirmed LegalZoom’s lawful status in North Carolina,” said Ken Friedman, Vice President of Legal and Government Affairs for LegalZoom. “We applaud the leadership of State Bar President Ron Gibson and his immediate predecessor Ron Baker on this issue.  North Carolina consumers have had uninterrupted access to LegalZoom’s personalized legal products and we look forward to now providing customers access to efficient and affordable legal advice from licensed North Carolina lawyers through our legal plans.”

LegalZoom has helped over 3 million customers across all 50 states, and its prepaid legal services plans are available in 42 states, with North Carolina and several more set to launch this year.  LegalZoom customers have scheduled over 200,000 legal plan attorney consultations.

“LegalZoom believes access to affordable, quality legal help is a fundamental right,” Friedman continued. “We are thankful for the efforts of the North Carolina State Bar in helping make sure that all North Carolinians are provided this access.”
