Oscilloquartz Launches Major New Series of Synchronization and Timing Distribution Devices

Enhanced Holdover Performance and High Remote Slave Capacity Enable Timing in the Access Network

NEUCHATEL, Switzerland, Oct. 28, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Oscilloquartz, an ADVA Optical Networking company, today launched the OSA 5420 series, a family of advanced grandmaster clock synchronization devices engineered for excellent performance even in the most extreme conditions. The pioneering product range delivers the best holdover performance on the market despite its compact footprint. This is achieved with a built-in sync distribution unit, sophisticated algorithm and high-quality oscillator. With capacity for up to 512 remote slaves, the OSA 5420 also represents an enormous increase in scale. It enables timing to be distributed and assured throughout the network over existing packet infrastructure and meets stringent frequency and phase synchronization requirements. With its self-calibrating clock recovery algorithm, the OSA 5420's Precision Time Protocol (PTP) implementation supports accurate phase and time delivery for a wide range of applications, including mobile backhaul and enterprise services.

"We've never been as excited as this about a new product launch. We can't wait to present it to the industry and demonstrate what it can do," said Nir Laufer, product line director, Oscilloquartz. "The combination of the product feature set with the high-end oscillator and our algorithm gives the OSA 5420 series unique capabilities. It enables it to match the holdover performance of rubidium clocks in all conditions and even out-perform rubidium in extreme temperatures. Our OSA 5420 efficiently distributes timing all the way from the network edge and assures that base station clocks and other synchronization devices precisely track their master. It utilizes our unique Syncjack(TM) suite for synchronization assurance and enables us to fine-tune the clock recovery algorithm on the fly based on the exact network performance. This achieves superior phase accuracy even in busy networks and also provides total visibility on timing accuracy."

The OSA 5420 series is a major leap forward in terms of capacity. The number of remote clocks that can now be supported has increased to meet the needs of synchronization network architectures with devices often installed at the edge of the network. It provides a new level of flexibility thanks to multiple legacy and next-generation physical synchronization interfaces that fan out for up to 32 outputs. The OSA 5420 also expands PTP and Synchronous Ethernet (Sync-E) capabilities as each unit can handle up to 12 PTP/Sync-E interfaces. The devices come complete with a built-in GNSS receiver and can be configured to operate in grandmaster, assisted partial timing support, and boundary or slave clock modes. Syncjack(TM) technology is used for timing distribution, monitoring and testing, with all functions supported by ADVA Optical Networking's FSP Sync Manager, an advanced management platform for timing distribution and assurance. There's simply no other solution that can integrate as many functions as cost-effectively while providing precise frequency and phase synchronization delivery and assurance.

"Exact synchronization and timing has become even more critical as more mobile network operators seek to upgrade their network to support LTE-A and LTE-TDD," commented Gil Biran, general manager, Oscilloquartz. "Our OSA 5420 series provides a smooth migration from legacy sync to next generation by supporting both precise PTP and legacy interfaces in the same product. It's engineered to deliver the incredibly accurate phase and frequency synchronization that next-generation network technologies require. We built a product that provides field-proven sync delivery performance while being incredibly cost-effective. What's more, with our integrated Syncjack(TM) technology, operators are able to continuously monitor timing performance while in service without using expensive test equipment. That creates a level of service assurance that's going to make a big difference across the entire industry - from mobile backhaul to enterprise networks and financial data centers."

The OSA 5420 series will be showcased live from Tuesday, November 3 until Thursday, November 5 at ITSF 2015 in Edinburgh.
