STA-BIL(R) Lawn Mower Racing Honored as a 2015 Champion of Economic Impact in Sports Tourism by Sports Destination Management

NORTHBROOK, IL--(Marketwired - Nov 9, 2015) - The U.S. Lawn Mower Racing Association (USLMRA) has been honored by Sports Destination Management, the leading publication for sports event planners and tournament directors, as one of the 2015 Champions of Economic Impact in Sports Tourism. The USLMRA was one of five honorees recognized by the publication in the Small Market Champions category.

The August 2015 STA-BIL National Lawn Mower Racing Series event in Foley, Alabama, presented by Foley Sports Tourism, was responsible for 149 total room nights and a total economic impact of $345,000 as reported in Sports Destination Management: "From the onset event organizers were impressed by the marketing and community outreach provided by Foley Sports Tourism. Despite inclement weather challenges, the event attracted over 2,800 spectators. USLMRA attributes the success of this event to Foley Sports Tourism, touting the service was 'far above any our organization has seen in quite a while.' The outstanding management on the part of Foley Sports Tourism and support for the racers and others resulted in 'one incredible event' with significant promise for the future."

"We were thrilled to partner with the U.S. Lawn Mower Racing Association to bring this exciting event to our community," said Don Staley, Executive Director of Sports for the City of Foley. "The event was first class on all levels and we enjoyed an incredible working relationship with the USLMRA. USLMRA staff, STA-BIL Series racers and Foley's race fans were some of the finest folks we've ever worked with!"

The most outstanding of those received were recognized and presented with event details in a special awards feature published in the November/December 2015 issue of Sports Destination Management. This year's winners are responsible for contributing more than $100 million to the national economy over the past year.

"Nominations were from an enormous variety of sports -- from team to individual, across all disciplines and all levels of play," said Fonda Johnson, publisher of Sports Destination Management.
