Bit9 + Carbon Black Experts to Present at Facebook's Security @Scale Conference

Duo will share insights on "Visualizing Security Data at Scale"


WALTHAM, Mass., Nov. 9, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Bit9® + Carbon Black®, the leader in Next-Generation Endpoint Security (NGES), announced today that two of the company's security experts will be featured speakers at Facebook's Security @Scale Boston Conference.

The session, "Visualizing Security Data@Scale," will be delivered by Bit9 + Carbon Black's Director of Data Science, John Langton, Ph.D., and Technical Director Alex Baker, Ph.D. on November 12, 2015.

Langton and Baker will discuss the challenges associated with visualizing large amounts of cyber security data; demonstrate how attempts to present this data fall short; illustrate ways engineers can make this data more accessible using specific visualization techniques, such as tree maps; and show how visualization can lead to insights about your data even security professionals would otherwise miss.

Speaker Information

John Langton is director of data science for Bit9 + Carbon Black. He was cofounder and CEO of VisiTrend, a visual analytics company, which Bit9 + Carbon Black acquired in 2015. Prior to founding VisiTrend, Langton was principle investigator on several Department of Defense projects for Charles River Analytics. He led two R &D teams and architected solutions involving technologies such as evolutionary algorithms, multi-agent systems, and probabilistic complex event processing. Langton earned a Ph.D. in computer science from Brandeis University, where he also has taught, and has an extensive background in machine learning, big data analytics, and visualization.

Alex Baker is a technical director for Bit9 + Carbon Black, where he uses data science and visualization to identify analyze, and understand the advanced persistent threat. He previously was cofounder and CTO of VisiTrend. While there, Baker headed the development of VisiTrend Cloud, a powerful online visualization and analysis platform. He earned a Ph.D. in information and computer science from the University of California, Irvine, specializing in software design research and visualization.
