Using Knowledge From Recruitment to Boost Graduation Rates in Philadelphia Region

TargetX Leads Conversation on Critical Issues in Higher Ed; Gathers Panel of College and University Professionals in Philly for December 7th “iThink” Event at The Academy of the Natural Sciences

PHILADELPHIA, Nov. 19, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- On December 7th, 2015, TargetX and Campus Philly will host the 2nd Annual “iThink” that kicks off the Campus Philly Annual Meeting—forging critical conversations in the higher ed industry and continuing the collaboration between two higher education players and TargetX’s corporate philanthropy project, The Power of X.

THE CONVERSATION:

TargetX will be leading a panel discussion to discuss how colleges and universities in the Philadelphia area are leveraging their resources to find and keep best-fit students.

With over half of enrolled students at public institutions failing to complete their degrees in six years, let alone four, higher ed faces a national crisis. Panelists will discuss the ways that student success starts with prospective students and ends with successful alumni, all of which takes a campuswide effort.

“Campus Philly partners with 35 colleges and universities. Each school is different, but they all want to attract students who can succeed and who are a right fit for their institution,” says Deborah Diamond, president of Campus Philly. “This year’s iThink roundtable discussion gives a chance for our higher education leaders to talk about how recruiting strategies can impact retention outcomes, a topic critical to Philadelphia as we seek to retain these graduates as residents.”

Panelists will share best practices around engaging students at every level -- both on and off campus, setting university-wide goals for student retention, and aligning resources to address this challenge.

THE PARTICIPANTS:

  • Dr. Peter Jones, Senior Vice Provost for Undergraduate Studies, Temple University
  • Dr. Samuel Hirsch, VP for Academic and Student Success, Community College of Philadelphia
  • Claudine Thomas, Interim Academic Dean, Moore College of Art & Design
  • Brian Wm. Niles, Founder & Chief Evangelist, TargetX, Moderator

“We’re excited to drive one of the most pressing conversations of higher ed forward in our backyard, Philadelphia,” says Sasha Peterson, CEO of TargetX. “It’s never been more important to connect retention efforts to student recruitment and connect the dots at every phase of the student lifecycle. Weak retention rates lead directly back to recruiting because students are far more attracted to schools that help them graduate.”
