Ringer Chiropractic Urges Patients to Seek Chiropractic Care During Holiday Travel Season

TRACY, Calif., Dec. 20, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Ringer Chiropractic urges patients to seek chiropractic care during this holiday season. According to the United States Department of Transportation, Bureau of Transportation Statistics, about 91 percent of long-distance holiday travel is done by personal vehicle. From Thanksgiving through New Year's Day, people travel hundreds of miles which can put them at risk for auto accidents and travel related physical strain. According to the Department of Transportation, the average Thanksgiving trip clocks in at 214 miles, while Christmas trips are slightly longer at 274 miles.

According to Dr. Donald Ringer of Ringer Chiropractic, chiropractic is especially beneficial to holiday travelers who have been involved in auto accidents. "When an accident occurs, even if it is a seemingly minor fender bender, the impact on the body is incredible," says Dr. Ringer. "Those involved may walk away from the scene feeling okay, but days later have incredible pain all throughout their bodies. Conditions like whiplash, low back pain and neck pain may actually get worse as time goes on. Immediately after the accident, the body is in shock but as that wears off, pain will set in. It is best to seek treatment immediately, even during the holiday season, so that the pain can be kept at a minimum and patients can enjoy their family gatherings and traditions."

Chiropractic is especially helpful after an auto accident as the gentle techniques used by practitioners such as Dr. Ringer work to improve spinal alignment. When the spine is in perfect alignment, all systems in the body can function at their highest levels. After a car accident, this treatment is particularly important as the impact from the accident can cause misalignment in the spine and disruption of the body's systems. This disruption will then slow healing.

Though some will be involved in automobile accidents, the vast majority of travelers will be accident free, but could still benefit from chiropractic according to Dr. Ringer. "When you travel in a vehicle for six or seven hours or more, the spine can become stressed. In a normal day, we are rarely stationary for that long a period of time. Add to it the bumps and jolts of road travel and the body can become weary. Maintaining your regular chiropractic appointments, even during the hectic holidays, can keep you feeling your best."
