MARIMEKKO INVESTS IN ITS TEXTILE PRINTING FACTORY IN FINLAND

Marimekko Corporation, Press release, 21 December 2015 at 12:00 PM

Marimekko is investing in a new washing machine at the company’s textile printing factory in Helsinki. The value of the investment will be roughly one million euros. The investment is important in modernising the factory where about one million metres of fabric are printed yearly. The aim is to bring the new machinery online in August 2016.

“It’s very important to us for Marimekko to have its own printing factory in Finland. Printed fabrics and related design expertise have always been the core of Marimekko’s brand and a point of difference globally. We believe that pioneering in print pattern design goes hand in hand with in-house production, and it’s extremely important that the designers are able to do their work close to the manufacturing. That’s why investments in the printing factory are important. We take pride in continuing our heritage of textile printing in Finland,” says President Tiina Alahuhta-Kasko.

Most of the machinery and equipment used in the textile printing factory were updated during the period 2004–2008. In 2011, Marimekko acquired a new rotary printing machine.
