AncestryDNA Now Available in More Than 30 Countries

Global roll-out brings the power of family history discovery to millions more people for as little as $99 or Euro135

PROVO, Utah, March 10, 2016 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- AncestryDNA, the world’s largest consumer genomics database, is now available in more than 30 countries, providing people around the world a powerful new way to discover more about themselves and their family history, all through an easy-to-use DNA test.

With the expansion into additional global markets across Western and Eastern Europe, Scandinavia and Australia and New Zealand, AncestryDNA is opening the door to a new segment of consumers interested in uncovering their ancestral roots.  The move also benefits existing customers by ultimately expanding the reach of the AncestryDNA database, which will lead to more discoveries and connections.  To date, the company has already identified more than 10 million third cousin or closer matches for customers within its growing DNA database of more than 1.5 million people.

“In just over three years AncestryDNA has established itself as the world’s largest and fastest growing consumer genomics database with genotypes from more than 1.5 million customers," said Tim Sullivan, President and Chief Executive Officer of Ancestry. “AncestryDNA has been a big hit in the U.S. both for individual use and as a gift for relatives and friends. We are excited to bring the power of AncestryDNA to help millions more people across the globe gain a greater sense of who they are, where they came from, and who else shares their family’s journey.  As our DNA database grows in these new markets, it will create an even greater network effect that leads to uncovering deeper connections for our customers.”

Just over a decade after scientists decoded the first human genome, genetic research has become an affordable, mass-market proposition. Today, using AncestryDNA, customers can uncover their ethnic mix, discover distant relatives, and find new details about their unique family history with a simple DNA test, all in a secure, privacy-protected service that is fast and easy to use.

The AncestryDNA test, which costs as little as $99 or Euro135, uses microarray-based autosomal DNA testing, which tests a person’s genome at more than 700,000 locations via a small saliva sample. Analysis of the DNA data provides a prediction of an individual’s ethnic origins from 26 separate world-wide populations including Great Britain, Ireland, Scandinavia, Eastern Europe, Middle East and nine regions in Africa.
