MIAMI, April 01, 2016 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Hispanicize 2016 (www.HispanicizeEvent.com), the iconic annual event for Latino trendsetters and newsmakers in digital content creation, journalism, marketing, entertainment and tech entrepreneurship, is taking place April 4-8, 2016 in downtown Miami’s InterContinental hotel, April 4-8, 2016. Presented by Prudential Financial, the Third Annual Positive Impact Awards recognizes Hispanic Americans who do outstanding work in their communities. The awards were created as a homage to the late Louis Pagan, co-founder of Hispanicize and well-known social media entrepreneur, who passed away suddenly in February 2013. Louis was widely known for his kindness and commitment to giving the community a voice through his vast social media networks. Over the past three years, the Positive Impact Awards have honored 25 Latinos from all corners of the United States who have dedicated their lives, time and/or money to ensuring that their communities have access to the resources and support they need to succeed. Wednesday 4/6 starting at 7:30 p.m. — USA Network will premiere their new drama series QUEEN OF THE SOUTH at Regal South Beach Stadium

USA Network will premiere their new drama series QUEEN OF THE SOUTH, based on the global best-selling novel “La Reina Del Sur,” at the opening night of the Hispanicize Film Showcase with a red carpet, screening and panel discussion with the cast, moderated by Entertainment Weekly’s Nina Terrero. All attendees will receive a copy of the novel by internationally acclaimed author Arturo Perez-Reverte. Prior to the screening, attendees will enjoy a cocktail reception sponsored by ViveMejor, the Official Food Sponsor for Hispanicize. ViveMejor will celebrate the launch of their new web series, Tu Twist, by airing the inaugural episode starring Telemundo’s Giselle Blondet and written by Comedy Central’s Arturo Castro.

QUEEN OF THE SOUTH tells the powerful story of Teresa Mendoza, played by Alice Braga (“City of God”), a woman who is forced to run and seek refuge in America after her drug-dealing boyfriend is unexpectedly murdered in Mexico. In the process, she teams with an unlikely figure from her past to bring down the leader of the very drug trafficking ring that has her on the run.

Thursday 4/7 starting at 7:00 p.m. - 2nd Annual Tecla Awards and Red Carpet Reception. Special Performance by Wisin.

Arguably the hottest ticket of Hispanicize 2016, the 2nd Annual Tecla Awards are the “Oscars of Latino social media” with a fun, fast paced program that will bring the universe of top Latino digital creators together. Honoring excellence in U.S. Latino online video, blogging, media, marketing and those who create it, the 2nd Annual Tecla Awards reflect the growing state of original U.S. Hispanic programming native to YouTube, Facebook, Vine, Instagram, YouNow, Periscope, Pinterest, Twitter, blogging and virtually all types of social media platforms.

World-renowned, Puerto Rican reggaeton musician, Wisin, will close the awards. There will also be a special performance by DJ Alex Sensation.

Named after the Spanish-language word for an individual key on a keyboard, the Tecla Awards are being co-produced in partnership with NBC Universal Telemundo Enterprises and will be internationally live streamed for the first time this year.

The awards begins with a reception from 6:30 to 7:55 p.m. and will commence promptly at 8 p.m..

Friday 4/8 - Hispanicize Closing Bash at Blue Martini

Hispanicize has a longtime tradition of ending with a bang and this year will be no different! In partnership with Spanish Broadcasting Systems, Hispanicize 2016 and SBS will present the first ever “Karaoke Celebrity Night with Hispanicize and SBS.”
