Raven Industries Announces New, Industry-Leading 7-Layer Cast Extrusion Line

SIOUX FALLS, S.D., April 07, 2016 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Raven Industries’ Engineered Films Division (NASDAQ:RAVN), an innovative manufacturer of polymer film and sheeting, announced the installation of a technologically advanced 7-layer cast extrusion lamination line, located in its state-of-the-art facility in Sioux Falls, S.D.  Designed with leading-edge technology, the new line boasts advanced wide-width cast capabilities for both sheet extrusion and reinforced composite structures as wide as 150 inches, ranging from 4 mil to 80 mil in thickness. These added capabilities will further drive expansion for Raven’s wide-width reinforced geomembranes used in environmental protection for critical containment applications.

The new 7-layer cast lamination line is capable of processing advanced barrier structures designed specifically to prevent the migration of radon, methane, odors and hazardous volatile organic compounds (VOCs). Unique line features include the addition of two individual extrusion dies to process low and high viscosity resin types. The separate dies enable production of custom-engineered fabric composites, scrim-reinforced membranes and integrated release liners. Raven commissioned Macro Engineering & Technology Inc., a leading Canadian equipment manufacturer, to collaborate with its internal development and engineering teams in the custom design and construction of this sophisticated line. In addition to the expansion of wide-width geomembranes, Raven will utilize these unique capabilities to provide new-to-market custom materials for precise original equipment manufacturers (OEM) and end-use applications, entering niche market segments for the industrial and recreational market segments.

“This line provides an opportunity for Raven to partner with our customers in the development of some truly unique products with exceptional value propositions,” stated Anthony Schmidt, Vice President and General Manager for Raven Industries’ Engineered Films Division. “The advanced capabilities of this production line will accelerate our expansion into the industrial business segment by offering a broad range of highly refined composite materials — with several being new to the industry.”

Raven Engineered Films is fully committed to developing innovative materials by designing value-added and sustainable products to meet and exceed the latest industry standards.
