NACD Prepares Military Admirals and Generals for Service in Corporate Boardrooms

“From Battlefield to Boardroom” program convenes leading corporate directors and governance experts to help senior military leaders serve as strategic assets in corporate America

WASHINGTON, April 11, 2016 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD), the advocate for the profession of directorship, convened the nation’s top recently retired and soon-to-retire flag and general officers to prepare them to transition from serving their country in the field to serving in the boardroom.

NACD’s annual “From Battlefield to Boardroom” program details the fundamental roles and responsibilities of a corporate director, as well as what exemplary leadership looks like in the boardroom. Supported in part by KPMG LLP and CACI International Inc., the program focuses on topics ranging from boardroom basics to more complex issues of strategy, oversight, and stakeholder management and helps participants to sharpen the governance skills necessary to ensure effective risk oversight and long-term strategic planning.

Notable speakers included Justice Randy J. Holland, Delaware Supreme Court; Rear Admiral Marsha J. Evans (U.S. Navy, Ret.), director, Office Depot Inc. and Weight Watchers International Inc.; Warren R. Phillips, lead director, CACI International Inc.; Michael Montelongo, director, Herbalife Ltd.; Greg Pratt, board chair, Carpenter Technology Corp. and director, Tredegar Corp.; and Lieutenant General Michael Rochelle (U.S. Army, Ret.), director, Military Officers Association of America and the Center for Creative Leadership.

Attendees interacted with seasoned directors and corporate-governance professionals, and they gained access to mentorship and networking opportunities with experienced flag and general officers-turned-directors. Attendees left better equipped to position their military service to attract attention from executive recruiters and board directors.
