KARI HÄRKÖNEN STARTS AS MARIMEKKO’S CHIEF DIGITAL OFFICER

Kari Härkönen (MSc., MBA) started as Marimekko’s Chief Digital Officer (CDO) on 11 April 2016. In his role, Kari Härkönen is responsible for the company’s digital business, including online store operations and integrating digitality more deeply into Marimekko’s business. He will report to the President and CEO.

”Digitalisation is one of the most significant global trends revolutionising business logic and increasing competition in our industry. We see it as a great opportunity from the perspective of the international availability of Marimekko products, brand awareness, and building an omnichannel customer experience. Therefore we are developing digital business as an increasingly important part of our strategy. Towards the end of last year, we expanded our e-commerce presence in Europe, and at the beginning of April 2016, we opened our online store in Australia. Currently our online store serves customers in a total of 13 countries. We are continuously strengthening our expertise in this field, and it’s great to have a strong and versatile digital professional such as Kari Härkönen to lead our digital business team,” says Tiina Alahuhta-Kasko, President and CEO of Marimekko.

Kari Härkönen has previously acted as Director of E-commerce at Sanoma Digital. He has also worked as Country Manager for Finland at Zalando in Berlin, and as a consultant specialising, among other topics, in online strategies at McKinsey & Company.
