Marygrove College to Award $6,000 Catholic School Grant to Catholic High School Graduates

DETROIT, April 21, 2016 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- On Thursday Marygrove College, in partnership with the Archdiocese of Detroit, announced the Catholic School Grant, a new scholarship that honors those families who support a longstanding tradition of Catholic education by sending their children to Catholic schools. The Catholic School Grant is renewable for four years and awards qualifying students who graduated from Catholic high schools with up to $6,000 in scholarship money.

“We are committed to providing students with a rigorous and affordable liberal arts education,” said Marygrove College President Elizabeth Burns. “The launch of the Catholic School Grant demonstrates this while honoring the commitment of students and their families to Catholic education.”

IHM President Jane Herb, who assisted in securing the partnership between Marygrove College and the Archdiocese of Detroit, echoes this sentiment, noting that “The opportunity to continue a faith-based education is important for families who made a commitment to Catholic education.  In announcing this initiative, Marygrove continues the IHM tradition of preparing students who are competent, compassionate, and committed to building a more just and humane world.”

The Catholic School Grant, available to first-time, full-time freshmen and transfer students in the fall of 2016, is renewable for four years (eight semesters) at $1,500 per year. Transfer award renewal is evaluated upon admission and determined by the number of transferable credits received by Marygrove College. To meet renewal requirements, students must be enrolled full-time, remain in good academic standing, and meet all federal guidelines for satisfactory academic progress if applying for federal financial aid.

Marygrove’s announcement of the Catholic School Grant and its partnership with the Archdiocese of Detroit is only one of several collaborations between the college and other local Catholic organizations.
