Aareal Bank Group pushes ahead with implementation of its "Aareal 2020"
future programme: New people on board for strategy and digitalisation
Wiesbaden, 3 May 2016 - Aareal Bank Group is consolidating its management
team in order to push ahead with the implementation of its "Aareal 2020"
future programme which it unveiled in February 2016. As of 1 July 2016,
René Steurer will assume the newly created position of Group Managing
Director Corporate Strategy. In this role, he will be responsible for
Aareal Bank Group's long-term strategic development, strategic project
portfolio management, equity investments and M&A activities. Holger
Spielberg has been appointed to the role of Group Technology Officer, also
as of 1 July 2016. He will coordinate the IT strategy for banking business
and promote the Group's innovation management. Steurer, who is joining
Aareal Bank Group from Société Générale in London, will report to the
Chairman of the Management Board Hermann J. Merkens. Spielberg, who most
recently worked for Crédit Suisse in Zurich, will report to Thomas
Ortmanns, who is the Management Board member in charge of IT and the
Consulting/Services segment at Aareal Bank, and thus also responsible for
the IT subsidiary Aareon.

significant strategic measures to ensure the future development of our
business. With their experience and expertise, René Steurer and Holger
Spielberg will serve as a valuable source of ideas and inspiration as we
implement this programme," explained Merkens.
René Steurer (42) was initially with Lehman Brothers as from 2000, and from
2007 worked for Deutsche Bank in Frankfurt and London as an M&A and capital
market consultant for financial institutions. Since 2011, he has built up
the M&A consulting business for financial institutions in German-speaking
countries and for European specialist financing providers at Société
Générale, and managed these activities in his role as Managing Director. He
has implemented projects for Aareal Bank, among others, both at Société
Générale and at Deutsche Bank.
Holger Spielberg (48) initially worked for over 15 years in various
functions at companies including DaimlerChrysler, @Road and Detecon in
Silicon Valley. After his return to Germany he initially worked in the
start-up environment before moving as Head of Mobile Payment & Retail
Services to PayPal GmbH in Berlin at the start of 2011. Since mid-2014,
Holger Spielberg has been Managing Director Digital Private Banking and
Head of Innovation at Credit Suisse in Zurich (Switzerland).
