Armanino Partner Harvey Bookstein Honored by California State University, Northridge

Accounting Entrepreneur and Philanthropist Receives Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters for Decades of Service

SAN RAMON, Calif., May 19, 2016 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Armanino LLP, the largest independent accounting and business consulting firm based in California, announced today that partner Harvey Bookstein was named as the 2016 honorary doctor of humane letters from California State University, Northridge (CSUN).  The honorary degree will be conferred during the David Nazarian College of Business and Economics Commencement on May 22, 2016 at 8 a.m. at the Oviatt Library on the university campus.  Bookstein joins a list of notable previous honorary degree recipients including former Lt. Gov. Mike Curb, Sen. Margaret Chase Smith, businessman Michael Eisner and civil rights activist Dolores Huerta.

“We are so proud of Harvey and the achievements he has successfully made in accounting and taxation education at California State University, Northridge,” said Andy Armanino, managing partner of Armanino LLP.  “His commitment to paying it forward, by helping create the graduate taxation program and acting as a mentor to countless students and at the university, is an inspiration to everyone at the firm.”

Bookstein has played an important role in the university, having made a significant gift with his wife, to the school’s College of Business and Economics.  The donation led to the establishment of the Harvey Bookstein Chair in Taxation and the Bookstein Institute for Higher Education in Taxation.  The institute provides high quality graduate education in taxation, publishes a tax journal and awards scholarships to deserving students.  It also provides free tax preparation services to low income taxpayers in the community through the IRS-recognized CSUN VITA Clinic.

“I am honored to accept this honorary doctorate, but my real reward has been the ability to have a positive effect on the lives of hundreds of students over the years,” said Bookstein.  “Many students at CSUN are the first in their family to attend or graduate from college, and didn’t start their lives with the advantages found in more affluent communities.  If I can pass on anything to them, it’s that they truly are capable of anything if they hold on to their dreams.”
