Dayton, Ohio, May 23, 2016 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- MacAulay-Brown, Inc. (MacB), a leading National Security company delivering advanced engineering services and product solutions, today announced that MacB Board of Advisors member Rhett A. Hernandez was a featured speaker at the 2016 George Mason University - Armed Forces Communications and Electronics (AFCEA) Symposium. The event, held on May 18-19 at the Johnson Center on GMU’s Fairfax, Virginia campus, was hosted by the Center of Excellence in Command, Control, Communications, Computing, Intelligence and Cyber (C4I & Cyber Center). Lieutenant General Hernandez is currently serving as West Point Cyber Chair to the Army Cyber Institute.

The goal of the GMU-AFCEA Symposium 2016 is for members of government, industry and academia to meet and address important issues in C4I technology and systems R&D. Featured topics were the challenges of innovation, future key technologies, acquisition reform and how cyber concerns impact overall C4I innovation.

Lieutenant General Hernandez spoke on Thursday, May 19 on the topic of “Innovation to Increase Operational Effectiveness.” His presentation focused on what he learned about innovation from a wide range of operational assignments in Army digitized units, and what innovative capabilities are required to increase our ability to conduct effective cyberspace operations while increasing our ability to fight from a distance. Mr. Hernandez also reflected that time and space is converging, with global threats now able to impact national security via cyberspace in a matter of milliseconds.

“Today, U.S. military personnel and our partnering nations have to adjust the man versus machine balance by investing in people and technologies in order to provide real-time automated solutions,” said Lieutenant General Hernandez. “As my presentation reflects, it’s a real challenge that both Government and industry need to address in the near future, because our national security demands more innovative approaches and solutions to address rapidly changing global threats on multiple fronts.”
