OMA reports an 8.8% increase in May 2016 passenger traffic


MONTERREY, Mexico, June 06, 2016 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Mexican airport operator Grupo Aeroportuario del Centro Norte, S.A.B. de C.V., known as OMA (NASDAQ:OMAB) (BMV:OMA), reports that terminal passenger traffic at its 13 airports increased 8.8% in May 2016, as compared to May 2015. Domestic traffic increased 10.5%, and international traffic decreased 3.1%.

Of total May traffic, 97.9% was commercial aviation and 2.1% was general aviation.

Domestic traffic increased in twelve airports in May. The most noteworthy increases were in Monterrey (+6.2%; +38,433 passengers), Ciudad Juárez (+32.8%; +21,863), Culiacán (+17.6%; +20,993), and Durango (+54.2%; +11,933). Monterrey traffic increased principally because of higher traffic volumes on the Tijuana and Guadalajara routes.  Ciudad Juárez traffic increased because of higher volumes on the Mexico City and Guadalajara routes. Culiacán traffic increased principally as a result of increased volumes on the Tijuana route.  Durango traffic increased traffic on its Mexico City and Tijuana routes. 

During May, Aeroméxico opened the Chihuahua-Tijuana route.

International traffic increased in five airports in May. Traffic increased most significantly in Ciudad Juarez (+3,422 passengers), principally because of higher volumes on its Panama route.

Volaris opened the Culiacán-Phoenix route during May.

The number of flight operations (takeoffs and landings) in May increased 6.3%. The number of domestic operations increased 8.0%, and international operations decreased 4.8%.
