My Possibilities Holds Talent Showcase for Adults with Special Needs on June 24th

Students to Host Music and Drama Performances at the Plano Courtyard Theater

PLANO, Texas, June 21, 2016 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- My Possibilities (MP) is a Plano-based non-profit and continued education center dedicated to empowering adults with cognitive disabilities who are referred to as HIPsters – Hugely Important People. My Possibilities’ CREATE and Music Therapy Programs present the Revealing Possibilities Showcase, a public platform for the HIPsters to share their skills in performing and visual arts with the community. This event will take place on June 24th at the Plano Courtyard Theater from 6 p.m. – 9 p.m.

The night will begin with an art exhibition in the atrium of the theater.  All of the artwork on display has been created by the HIPsters, and the paintings and one-of-a-kind prints will be available for purchase.  The proceeds from the sale -- including the limited edition prints – will go to help the organization raise funds for the MP CREATE Program.  An educational framework for the arts, MP CREATE gives adults with special needs an outlet to learn creative expression. Peticolas Brewing Company graciously donated the beer which will be served at the event and My Possibilities’ very own Catering and Culinary Arts Program will provide delicious tapas for guests that have also been prepared by the HIPsters. All ingredients were generously donated by Whole Foods Market in Plano.

Following the visual arts show, entertainment will also be provided. The programmed portion of the event will feature music and drama performances from MP’s HIPsters. Vocal soloists, choir, ensembles and a band will share their music, followed by an original play, “Wendy,” performed by a cast of HIPsters. In addition, Mark Landson, a well-known violinist in the Dallas area, will team up with the HIPsters to provide entertainment for guests. This event is open to the public; however, space is limited to registered participants.  To register for this event or for more information, please visit MyPossibilities.org/Showcase.  Tickets for admission are $25 per person and will also be sold at the door if availability permits.

Each week, My Possibilities serves 400 HIPsters and provides continuing education, vocational training, and therapy services for adults with cognitive disabilities such as Autism, Down Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy and many others.  “We have an important mission,” noted Charmaine Solomon, founder and chairman of the board at My Possibilities.  “State funding for families with special needs adults is lower in Texas than in any other state, and the support we receive from the community during our fundraising efforts helps us to continue providing cutting edge educational programs and services for a deserving population. Our corporate sponsors, friends, neighbors and other concerned citizens in North Texas are the foundation of our program, and we deeply appreciate the ongoing support they so generously provide for our HIPsters.”
