Two charities get $28,500 from the CDPHP Workforce Team Challenge

ALBANY, N.Y., June 23, 2016 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The CDPHP Workforce Team Challenge is much more than a 3.5-mile road race. In addition to bringing together thousands of coworkers for an evening of fitness and fun, the event raises money for deserving local nonprofits.

This year, Girls on the Run Capital Region and Schenectady ARC were chosen as the race's charities of choice. The 10,000 race registrants were encouraged to make a donation to these organizations when they signed up. In addition, T-shirt company All U, Inc. donates a percentage of their sales to the race charities each year. Thanks to the generosity of the participants and All U, the nonprofits will share $28,589.78!

Girls on the Run Capital Region uses running and other physical activities to teach essential life skills and core values for living an emotionally healthy and physically active lifestyle for girls in grades 3 through 8. The organization will use the donation for its Lace Up for Girls! scholarship fund and to provide sneakers for participants in need.

Schenectady ARC assists more than 1,000 individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in the Capital Region and helps them lead meaningful, productive, and fully-integrated lives in their communities. The donation from the CDPHP Workforce Team Challenge will benefit recreational and wellness initiatives, as well as healthy lifestyle programs that Schenectady ARC offers.

The CDPHP Workforce Team Challenge is organized by, and serves as the major fundraiser for, the Hudson Mohawk Road Runners Club. The funds raised help underwrite many of HMRRC's activities and services, including college scholarships, grants, running clinics, and the Just Run Program that encourages grade school children to run for exercise and fun.

"I am delighted by the outpouring of support each year. It proves that the CDPHP Workforce Team Challenge goes beyond running. The race fosters a sense of camaraderie, caring, and team spirit," said John D. Bennett, MD, president and CEO, CDPHP. "It makes me proud that CDPHP is the title sponsor of this fantastic event. On behalf of CDPHP, I thank the participants and HMRRC for their outstanding efforts."

"HMRRC is thrilled to be able to give back to the community through the race's charity of choice program as a result of its partnership with CDPHP," said Race Director Mark Warner of HMRRC.
