Bahnhof Selects ADVA FSP 3000 100G Core Technology for National Network

ADVA Optical Networking ROADM Technology Utilized to Address Sweden's Phenomenal Bandwidth Boom

STOCKHOLM, Sweden, July 12, 2016 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- ADVA Optical Networking announced today that Bahnhof has selected the ADVA FSP 3000 with 100Gbit/s core technology for its national backbone network. Bahnhof, one of Sweden's largest internet service providers, chose to overhaul its existing infrastructure in response to rapid growth in bandwidth demand from its enterprise and residential customers. The meshed DWDM solution, complete with multi-degree ROADMs, links every city in the south of Sweden from Stockholm to Malmo. The long-haul network, which also incorporates the Danish capital, Copenhagen, and Norway's capital, Oslo, transmits capacity of 100Gbit/s at every point. The new transport system is fully scalable and ready to support encrypted services.

"Our customers put a lot of trust in us to provide reliable, secure services. Now, in order to provide more homes and businesses with ultra-fast connectivity and offer 100Gbit/s at fixed, attractive prices, we're putting our trust in ADVA Optical Networking," said Gustav Bergquist, CTO, Bahnhof. "Their team is supporting us at every stage from design to demos to deployment. They understand what's important to us and to our customers. Deploying the ADVA FSP 3000 with ROADM technology in our new national backbone will enable us to bring phenomenally high bandwidth to even more enterprises and deliver world-class triple-play services to more homes. Future-proofing is also vital so we're investing in a solution that can scale alongside rising demand and the growth of the internet of things."

Bahnhof's new 100Gbit/s coherent network features 48 nodes connected in a ring topology. Multi-degree ROADMs are deployed at 36 drop sites, creating remote cross-connections on the optical layer to boost availability and simplify operations. The freedom to add and drop traffic without deploying personnel greatly improves service agility and operations. The solution features 96 100Gbit/s channels and has a total capacity of 9.6Tbit/s. With muxponder cards, Bahnhof will be able to offer 10Gbit/s or 100Gbit/s connectivity to customers anywhere on the network. What's more, the modular architecture of the ADVA FSP 3000 makes Bahnhof's new infrastructure fully scalable for future growth and ready for the deployment of encryption at the optical network layer.

"Our team understands how important it is to get this right. We know what this upgrade means to Bahnhof and how much is at stake with a project of this scale. We've listened carefully and designed a network to deliver precisely what they need," commented Peter Atterlöf, sales director, Nordics and Baltics, ADVA Optical Networking. "Reach and flexibility are essential for a long-haul transport system of this size. That's why our FSP 3000 utilizes coherent detection technology optimized for long-haul backbone networks. It provides the ideal combination of capacity and flexibility to support the rapidly growing and changing demands of Bahnhof's diverse customer base. And our ROADM technology ensures that network operations are more streamlined and efficient than ever before."
