Chambers-Ranked Attorney Phil Conner Bolsters Williams Mullen's Environment & Natural Resources Practice

COLUMBIA, S.C., July 13, 2016 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Williams Mullen is pleased to announce that Phil Conner has joined the firm as a Partner in the firm's Environment & Natural Resources practice. Mr. Conner joins Williams Mullen in South Carolina after more than three years at Nexsen Pruet in Greenville. In total, he has almost 30 years of experience representing industrial, manufacturing and corporate clients in environmental, health and safety law matters.

Mr. Conner has been ranked as a "Band 2" Environmental lawyer by Chambers USA and he has been named the Best Lawyers® "Lawyer of the Year" for Environmental Litigation in Greenville four times (2012, 2013, 2015, 2016).

His addition is part of an ongoing expansion plan for Williams Mullen into South Carolina, which opened its Columbia office with four attorneys in April 2015.

"As we look to expand in South Carolina, we are seeking talented environmental, corporate and real estate attorneys who provide great value for our clients," Carolinas Managing Partner David Paulson said. "Phil is a great fit in that regard as we aim to become a go-to firm not only in Columbia but throughout South Carolina."

Mr. Conner becomes the fifth Williams Mullen Environment & Natural Resources attorney to be included in the most recent edition of Chambers USA, including practice chair Channing Martin and attorneys Amos Dawson, Speaker Pollard and Ethan Ware.

"Phil brings a tremendous amount of knowledge to our team," Martin said." His experience, particularly with the Clean Air Act and in environmental litigation, will be an asset to clients throughout our footprint."

Mr. Conner regularly represents clients in state, federal and administrative tribunals in matters involving toxic tort litigation, appeals on environmental permits and responses to enforcement actions brought by regulatory agencies. He advises clients on matters related to the Clean Air Act, the Clean Water Act, the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) and the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation and Liability Act (CERCLA).

Mr. Conner serves on the Greater Greenville Chamber of Commerce Environmental Issues Committee, and he is a member of the Carolina Air Pollution Control Association (CAPCA). He earned a Bachelor of Science degree, a Master of Business Administration degree and his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Georgia.
