WILMINGTON, Del., July 15, 2016 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- InterDigital, Inc. (NASDAQ:IDCC), a mobile technology research and development company, is proud to announce it has been invited by the White House to participate in the Advanced Wireless Testbed Consortium (“AWT Consortium”).
The AWT Consortium is a groundbreaking public-private partnership being led by US Ignite, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit inspired by the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy and the National Science Foundation. The consortium will combine expertise and funding from industry, academia and government to encourage the development of next-generation wireless communications technology.
Over the next five years, the AWT Consortium aims to deliver 60 next-generation wireless applications, as well as 200 community test beds where applications can be researched, developed, tested, refined and deployed. In addition to its support, InterDigital will be contributing various technologies focused on backhaul, spectrum management and bandwidth management to the consortium.

The AWT Consortium is expected to support research in areas such as mmWave technology and dynamic spectrum, as well as help validate cutting-edge technologies related to radio layers, sensors, spectrum usage paradigms, and application performance.
