The Arthritis Society and Massage Addict partner to promote pain relief

Partnership will provide education about complementary therapies to people living with arthritis

TORONTO, July 21, 2016 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The Arthritis Society and Massage Addict have announced a three-year partnership to promote education around pain relief and complementary therapies for people living with arthritis.

More than 4.6 million Canadians live with chronic pain, stiffness and inflammation due to arthritis, and more and more are looking for ways to help alleviate their symptoms. Massage uses soft tissue manipulation to help release muscle tension for better flexibility and pain relief, making it an option worth exploring for many people.

"Coping with chronic pain takes more than just medication," says Janet Yale, president and CEO of The Arthritis Society. "At the same time that a person with arthritis is developing a treatment plan with their physician, they need to be discussing a lifestyle plan as well. Healthy eating, sleep patterns and physical activity all have a role to play in symptom management, and so can complementary therapies like massage that may offer short-term symptom relief. The Society is excited to partner with Massage Addict to help share these insights with Canadians."

Massage Addict is Canada's largest massage therapy company with over 60 clinics across the country. Its staff are Registered Massage Therapists (RMTs), ensuring they have the necessary training and experience to provide arthritis-specific care.

"The Arthritis Society and Massage Addict have a natural symmetry. We are strongly aligned on many levels including our mission which is to provide relief and support to those living with discomfort and pain", explains Massage Addict CEO Fraser Clarke. "We are extremely proud to support The Arthritis Society and look forward to a long partnership."
