NACD Applauds Commonsense Corporate Governance Principles

WASHINGTON, July 25, 2016 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD), the advocate for the profession of directorship, applauds the Commonsense Corporate Governance Principles issued last week by a committee of top U.S. business leaders, including Warren Buffett, CEO of Berkshire Hathaway, and Jamie Dimon, CEO of JPMorgan Chase & Co. The Commonsense Corporate Governance Principles support strong independent boards, transparency, and long-term value creation, and in the process, build increased shareholder confidence.

Creating an environment that fosters sound governance is, and should remain, the first priority for boards as it carries significant implications for the nation’s economy and global competitiveness. The principles issued by the committee uphold and reinforce the leading governance practices that NACD has advocated for more than 35 years.

“We are pleased to see that the principles supported by this esteemed group promote the same concepts of transparency, long-term value creation, and independent board leadership that NACD champions,” said Ken Daly, NACD’s CEO. “Our robust portfolio of governance resources—developed for directors, by directors—can assist boards in implementing these practices.”

NACD will unveil a framework next month that establishes the first-ever standard for director education. This open-source framework will help to ensure that directors have the necessary skills to deliver on these critical governance principles.
