Alpha and Omega Semiconductor Introduces a High Efficiency DrMOS Power Modules with Optimized Performance

Versatile synchronous buck power stage feature state-of-the-art technology

SUNNYVALE, Calif., July 29, 2016 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Alpha and Omega Semiconductor Limited (AOS) (Nasdaq:AOSL), a designer, developer and global supplier of a broad range of power semiconductors, today announced the release of the AOZ5166QI-01, the high efficiency power modules which are fully compliant with Intel’s DrMOS specifications. The AOZ5166QI-01 is housed in a 40-pin 6mm x 6mm QFN package that integrates an optimized dual gate driver and two MOSFETs, which together produce a high efficiency DC-DC synchronous buck power stage. The new device enables high power density voltage regulator solutions ideal for servers, work stations, graphic cards and high-end desktop PC applications.

The AOZ5166QI-01 utilizes AOS’s proprietary state-of-the-art trench MOSFET and packaging technologies to improve efficiency and thermal performance over the previous generation solution.  Continuous engineering innovations are being implemented to reduce switching loss and lower power dissipation that ultimately benefit thermal characteristics that lead to higher current driving capability.  The low RDS(ON) of low-side MOSFET combined with the low Qg high-side MOSFET achieves an optimal balance between switching and conduction losses to increase overall efficiency by 1%.

“To meet ever increasing power density requirements of high-end computing or server applications, we optimized our DrMOS power module driver performance by reducing switching loss, improving efficiency, and lowering the power dissipation,” said Kenny Hu, Power IC Product Marketing Manager at AOS.

Pricing and Availability

The AOZ5166QI-01 is available immediately in production quantities. The unit price of 1,000 pieces is $2.15.
