LastPass Delivers Updated Authenticator App with Push-Based Two-Factor Authentication

Latest update enables users to enjoy unique one-tap verification on top websites

FAIRFAX, Va., Aug. 03, 2016 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- LastPass, makers of the world’s most popular password manager, today announced an update to LastPass Authenticator, its free, two-factor authentication (2FA) app. The new update makes LastPass Authenticator the first authentication app to deliver a push-based, one-tap experience to verify a user’s identity for Time-based One-time Password (TOTP) based sites, such as Google, Amazon, Evernote and more. As a result, this update allows users to utilize LastPass Authenticator as a superior, convenient, two-factor authentication experience, rather than managing multiple authenticator apps.

While consumers are constantly faced with the reality of security breaches and attacks, a recent global survey by LastPass found that 70 percent of consumers surveyed are not utilizing two-factor authentication. Of those, 60 percent are not even aware of two-factor authentication. To address that gap, LastPass Authenticator‘s new app makes 2FA easier and more accessible for the general public. Rather than having to enter a six-digit code to authorize logins, a user with the LastPass Authenticator set up can now simply tap an approval notification that has been pushed to their phone to verify their identity and complete their login.

“Traditional two-factor authentication solutions require extra steps that are cumbersome for most users,” said Joe Siegrist, GM and VP of LastPass. “Layered security doesn’t have to mean adding another step or device. Smartphones are ubiquitous in our everyday lives, so using it as a way to stay secure means there is nothing extra to keep track of. With the updated LastPass Authenticator, users gain all the security benefits of a multifactor solution in one, easy-to-use app which delivers on our mission to provide simple, secure authentication for everyone.”

LastPass Authenticator Availability
Available immediately, the updated LastPass Authenticator is a free mobile app that works with LastPass Free, LastPass Premium, and LastPass Enterprise. It can also be independently used on online websites or applications that support TOTP-based two-factor authentication, with or without a LastPass password manager account.
