Kaarel Ots Named as the New Chairman of Nasdaq Tallinn

Tallinn/Riga/Vilnius, Nasdaq Baltic Market, August 4, 2016 – Nasdaq (NDAQ) announces that the Supervisory Council of Nasdaq Tallinn elected Kaarel Ots as the member and chairman of the management Board of Nasdaq Tallinn. Mr. Ots’ first day at Nasdaq will be Monday, August 8.

„We are glad to have Kaarel on board with us at Nasdaq,“ said Arminta Saladžienė, the Head of Nasdaq Baltic Market. „Kaarel brings with him extensive knowledge of the Baltic financial landscape, as well as a clear vision and passion to develop the capital market further. As the Chairman of Nasdaq Tallinn and member of the Baltic Management Team, Kaarel will be instrumental in our efforts of realizing the full potential of the Baltic exchanges.“

„The goal of the stock exchange is to be a high-quality and innovative marketplace where companies can raise capital and investors invest their money, therefore the most important task for us is to attract new companies and investors to the market to increase liquidity and trading activity,“ said Kaarel Ots. „The saying „simple is not easy“ applies well for boosting the market – and nobody questions its importance. The actions needed for developing the market are also known, but it takes time to get the results. I remain optimistic as the trend is positive: the recent new listings, the emergence of the new investment funds in the Baltics, and also an active start-up environment we’re seeing around us.“

Kaarel Ots has more than 15 years of experience in the financial services industry. He joins Nasdaq from Deloitte, where he served as the Head of Financial Advisory. Prior to Deloitte he worked for UniCredit bank, holding several positions there, including the Deputy Branch Manager and the Head of Corporate Banking. Mr. Ots has also served as the Member of the Management Board of FinanceEstonia since its inception in 2012. He has obtained a Master’s degree in corporate and investment banking from SDA Boccini School of Management in Italy.
