Sponda’s Ruoholahden Sulka office building granted BREEAM In-Use certification
The property investment company Sponda Plc has obtained BREEAM In-Use certification with a rating of “Very Good” for its Ruoholahden Sulka office building, which is centrally located in a busy office hub in Helsinki’s Ruoholahti district. Among Sponda’s office buildings, Ruoholahden Tähti and Ruoholahden Ankkuri have previously received same certification.
“At Ruoholahden Sulka, we have worked with our tenants to pay special attention to waste sorting and recycling, and we received a full score for that aspect. The report also praised the number of parking spaces for bicycles as well as the office building’s central location, which offers good public transport connections,” says Hanna Duraku, Sustainability Manager at Sponda.
BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method) In-Use is an international green building certification system aimed at reducing the environmental impact of the use of buildings as well as the development of healthier working environments. The certification process takes into account the building’s indoor environmental quality and energy efficiency, among other things. At Ruoholahden Sulka, the office building itself was the object of the certification process.
Sponda applies for international environmental classification for all new buildings and major renovation projects. As of August 2016, Sponda has 11 certified properties and several certification projects in progress.
The BREEAM certificate was granted to Ruoholahden Sulka by BRE (Building Research Establishment Limited) and the auditing and final reporting was conducted by Green Building Partners.
“Sponda’s commitment to verifying the sustainability of its properties and the working group’s active participation in the certification process contributed to Ruoholahden Sulka achieving a very good environmental rating,” says Konsta Tuokko, Senior Consultant at Green Building Partners Oy and the person in charge of the certification process.
