GREENSTONE, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - Sept. 7, 2016) - Infrastructure investments are vital to creating jobs, strengthening the middle class and building more inclusive and efficient communities where families can work, learn and play.
Today, the Honourable Patricia A. Hajdu, Minister of Status of Women, and Member of Parliament for Thunder Bay-Superior North, on behalf of the Honourable Amarjeet Sohi, Minister of Infrastructure and Communities, and the Honourable Michael Gravelle, Ontario Minister of Northern Development and Mines and Member of Provincial Parliament for Thunder Bay-Superior North, on behalf of the Honourable Bob Chiarelli, Ontario Minister of Infrastructure, announced that 35 infrastructure projects in small communities across Ontario will move forward immediately.
This investment of over $141 million includes funding in Greenstone to support the second phase of the Geraldton water line rehabilitation. This project will improve the health and safety of area residents by providing clean drinking water.
The federal and provincial governments are each contributing more than $44 million, and the remainder will be cost-shared by the recipient communities, through the Small Communities Fund, which supports priority infrastructure projects in communities across the country that have less than 100,000 residents.
