GRAPEVINE, TX--(Marketwired - November 03, 2016) - With less than a week left before the 2016 presidential election, many voters are still undecided while polls show the candidates running neck and neck. In October, GameStop, a family of specialty retail brands that makes the most popular technologies affordable and simple, conducted a presidential poll of its own; one of its PowerUp Rewards™ members, with "fun" as the main platform, to find out how video game characters would fare if they were running for president and vice president of the United States.
GameStop surveyed more than 500 men and women ages 18-44. The survey revealed those voting would elect Mario and Luigi as president and vice president, as well as other fun information about video games and our current candidates. GameStop wasn't surprised that Mario and Luigi won the election as they are famous for their 'bro-based moves' that help them remove major obstacles, jump wide gaps and crush any bricks that get in the way.
The GameStop election survey results show:
- Mario and Luigi won president and vice president with 36 percent of the vote, with Nathan Drake and Master Chief coming in second with 25 percent. Nathan Drake and Master Chief have said they will not contest the election results.
- If our current political candidates were a video game character, who would they be?
- More than 33 percent said Hillary Clinton would be Ms. Pac-Man
- Nearly 24 percent said Donald Trump would be Pac-Man
- 31 percent said Gary Johnson would be Luigi
- 31 percent said Jill Stein would be Princess Peach
- When respondents were asked to speculate current candidates' favorite video games, responses included:
- 27 percent said Hillary Clinton would prefer Rise of Tomb Raider
- 37 percent said Donald Trump would prefer Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare
- 26 percent said Gary Johnson would prefer FIFA17
- Nearly 26 percent said Jill Stein would prefer Lego Dimensions, followed closely by more than 26 percent who said she's prefer Skylanders Imaginators.
- 30 percent said Master Chief would be the best debate moderator for video game characters.
- It was a near voting tie where 22 percent said Sonic would be the best candidate guest on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, with 21 percent selecting Mario.
- Speculation for which political party the video game characters may represent?
- 40 percent said Master Chief would run as a Republican
- 28 percent said Lara Croft would run as a Democrat
- 34 percent said Sonic would run as a Libertarian
- 45 percent said Link would run as part of the Green Party
With the GameStop election survey, the company hopes to add a lighter, more humorous tone to the current campaign environment.
