InterDigital Joins Industry-Leading Peers in GSMA NB-IoT Forum

Company Expands Industry Ecosystem to Support Adoption and Growth of the IoT


WILMINGTON, Del., March 21, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- InterDigital, Inc. (NASDAQ:IDCC), a mobile technology research and development company, announced that the company has joined the GSMA as well as the GSMA’s Mobile IoT Initiative and GSMA NB-IoT Forum focused on Low Power, Wide Area (LPWA) technology, during Mobile World Congress 2017 in Barcelona.

InterDigital will contribute by providing its expertise and supporting trials, pilots and commercial launches with its IoT portfolio based on open standards and protocols such as oneM2M™ and OMA LWM2M.

The GSMA NB-IoT forum aims to accelerate the widespread adoption of 3GPP-based NB-IoT technology. The Forum’s members include over 60 industry leaders such as Vodafone, Huawei, Ericsson, Intel, Nokia, Telefonica, among others, committed to positively contributing to the Forum’s high-level objectives that include facilitating demonstrations and proof of concept trials and promoting collaboration between all NB-IoT industry partners to ensure interoperability of solutions.

Similarly, the GSMA Connected Living Programme is an initiative to help operators add value and accelerate the delivery of new connected devices and services in the IoT market. This is to be achieved by industry collaboration, appropriate regulation, optimizing networks as well as developing key enablers to support the growth of IoT. The GSMA also established the Mobile IoT Initiative to support in the development, growth and adoption of LPWA technology in licensed spectrum.
