Hawaiʻi’s Technology Leader Invests in Educating Local Business Professionals

HONOLULU, May 11, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Hundreds of local business professionals gathered at the Hawaiʻi Convention Center today for Hawaiʻi’s premier technology event, Hawaiian Telcom (NASDAQ:HCOM) University (HTU) 2017 – Business Meets the Smart World.

Hawaiian Telcom has invested in this educational event for the past eight years to help local businesses keep up with changes in technology. HTU gave local business professionals insights on the Smart World, where advanced technologies converge and an abundance of data is available.

“As Hawaii’s technology leader, Hawaiian Telcom has an extensive network of partners that include the leading technology companies not just in the nation but in the world, and we’re pleased to connect these experts with our local business community at HTU,” said Paul Krueger, Hawaiian Telcom Vice President – Business Sales and Product Marketing. “In the Smart World, it’s possible to collect data from virtually anything and our goal is to help businesses understand how to leverage this data to create new opportunities as well as to proactively address any cybersecurity concerns.”

Industry-leading technology experts from organizations including Nokia, Accenture, Cisco, Microsoft, and Palo Alto Networks, shared their perspectives on the risks and rewards of the Smart World.

“With the proliferation of the Internet of Things, more businesses are adopting connected technology to improve their efficiency and customer service, but what are the security risks of this interconnected world?” said Stephan Tallent, Senior Director – Managed Security Service Providers for Fortinet. “Smart technology can also mitigate risks so it’s important to enter the Smart World with your eyes wide open and with a security strategy in mind.”

HTU’s Technology Expo showcased the latest advanced services such as cloud-based video surveillance systems and the global Southeast Asia – U.S. submarine cable that will provide the fastest direct access between the U.S. and Indonesia.
