HISTORIC INITIATIVE LAUNCHED TO CELEBRATE THE LEGACY OF SUPER BOWL LI

Houston Super Bowl Host Committee, Houston Texans and Greater Houston Community Foundation bring 78 nonprofits together to highlight $4M impact of Touchdown Houston

Houston, Texas, June 15, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) --

Representatives from 78 local nonprofit organizations that received a combined $4 million in grant funding from Touchdown Houston, the charitable giving program of the Houston Super Bowl Host Committee and the NFL Foundation, came together for a special event at NRG Stadium to celebrate the lasting impact of Super Bowl LI on the city of Houston.

The event recognized the 78 nonprofit grant recipients, highlighted the success of Super Bowl LI and introduced a historic new initiative called “Greater Than the Game,” an unprecedented social media campaign that will showcase the work of these organizations over the next year. The goals of this effort are to elevate the visibility of the nonprofits’ work, highlight the collective impact and inspire additional philanthropy in the community to ensure funding of long-term legacy projects.

All of the Touchdown Houston nonprofit grantees convened for the first time and shared their work and plans for their many charitable efforts. By creating connections among the nonprofits and fostering ongoing collaboration, the community will be able to leverage a synergy of resources that will be felt for generations to come.

Super Bowl LI may have been the greatest Super Bowl of all time, but the collaboration with these 78 nonprofits can prove to be the greatest Super Bowl community movement of all time.

“When we were planning for the Super Bowl, we wanted to make a strong impact on local groups that take care of Houstonians every day,” said Ric Campo, Chairman of the Houston Super Bowl Host Committee. “The focus was to bring people together, nurture the connections and partnerships that were made during the experience of the game and use that connection to ultimately make the community benefits greater than the game.”

“It was a privilege for Greater Houston Community Foundation to administer the Touchdown Houston grants, and we couldn't be prouder to tell the story of the impact on our city,” said Steve Maislin, President of Greater Houston Community Foundation. “The ‘Greater Than the Game’ social media campaign will show the world how much these extraordinary organizations are doing to provide opportunities to all Houstonians, and how, despite their many different focus areas, we are all truly one community.”

Followers on social media are encouraged to use the hashtag, #GreaterThanTheGame, to upload, share and find all photos and posts related to this initiative.
