CCHR Florida Invites the Public to Learn the History of Psychiatry During PTSD Awareness Month at Museum in Downtown Clearwater

CLEARWATER, Fla., June 22, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- In honor of PTSD Awareness Month, the Citizens Commission on Human Rights (CCHR), a non-profit mental health watchdog organization founded by the Church of Scientology and psychiatrist Dr. Thomas Szasz in 1969, invites the public to tour the “Psychiatry: An Industry of Death” Museum as part of an ongoing campaign to restore rights and dignity to the field of mental health. Since its opening in July 2015, CCHR Florida has welcomed over 4,000 visitors through the museum located at its state headquarters at 109 Fort Harrison Avenue in downtown Clearwater.  The museum is open daily and is free to everyone.

On its website, CCHR notes that the “Psychiatry: An Industry of Death” Museum presents the unvarnished history of psychiatry.  The museum also provides information on the state of psychiatry today using interviews with more than 160 doctors, attorneys, educators, survivors and experts on the mental health industry to “Shine the light of truth on the multi-billion dollar psychiatric industry.”

PTSD Awareness Month is observed every June for the purpose of raising public awareness of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and CCHR Florida is inviting those interested in learning more about alternative treatments to tour their museum.

In addition to museum tours, CCHR has participated in hundreds of events distributing over 360,000 documentary DVDs, booklets, information kits and educational materials for the purpose of providing Floridians with the truth about psychiatric drugs, treatments and Floridians’ rights under the mental health law.

“One of our goals is to educate the public at large on these issues,” said Diane Stein, President of CCHR Florida. “The museum tours and events help us to accomplish this goal faster and more effectively.”

The museum is open daily and events are held weekly and monthly. Both are free to the general public. For more information please call 727-442-8820 or log on to www.cchrflorida.org

About the Citizens Commission on Human Rights:
Initially established by the Church of Scientology and renowned psychiatrist Dr. Thomas Szasz in 1969, CCHR’s mission is to eradicate abuses committed under the guise of mental health and enact patient and consumer protections. It was L. Ron Hubbard, the founder of Scientology, who brought the terror of psychiatric imprisonment to the notice of the world. In March 1969, he said, “Thousands and thousands are seized without process of law, every week, over the ‘free world’ tortured, castrated, killed. All in the name of ‘mental health.’”
