The first of these newly designed pickup containers that will change the way you shop is located at 653 Upper James Street in Hamilton, and will operate from 7am to 9pm on weekdays and 10am to 6pm on weekends. This new, innovative structure will come equipped with a refrigeration unit to keep all your items at the required temperature, and a security system to keep your packages secure. Penguin Pick-Up’s new, freestanding container is made of two 40 foot steel custom recycled shipping containers constructed by Secure Container Solutions. The first of its kind, this new Penguin Pick-Up is designed to be fabricated almost entirely off-site, which provides minimal disruption to the property and service roads in which it is being located – offering unlimited opportunity for expansion.
The initial concept design for the structures was completed by Bohlin Grauman Miller Architects (BGMA), the Canadian affiliate of U.S.-based Bohlin Cywinski Jackson. The firm is known for their exceptional residential, educational, and high-profile workplace design, such as Apple stores worldwide, Pixar Animation Studios, and Under Armour. “We were attracted to the challenge of creating a uniquely modern, yet modestly-budgeted installation, by utilizing recycled steel intermodal shipping containers as the basic framework for the buildings,” says BGMA Project Architect Jeffrey Jones.
