Sears Hometown & Outlet Stores Announces Plan to Support Hurricane Harvey Victims

National retailer to ship water bottles, collect donations for the American Red Cross at stores across America

HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill., Sept. 01, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Sears Hometown and Outlet Stores, Inc. (NASDAQ:SHOS) has announced it will join the national movement to help the people of Houston, Texas, in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey.

From now until Sept. 30, people are encouraged to visit any of the more than 1,000 Sears Hometown and Outlet stores across the United States, where they can make monetary donations that will go to the Red Cross Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund.

Additionally, in an effort to help as quickly as possible, Sears Hometown and Outlet Stores has shipped over 3,000 cases of water to the Houston area where residents can pickup a complimentary case of bottled water. One case of bottled water per family is requested for the two truckloads that have shipped to support the victims of the hurricane to help as many families as possible.

Starting this Saturday the water will be available at the following locations in Texas: Spring, Katy, Houston, and Clear Lake.

“Words cannot describe the impact of Hurricane Harvey,” said Will Powell, CEO and President of Sears Hometown and Outlet Stores, Inc. “Our stores are primarily locally-owned and operated and the owners of these stores throughout the Gulf Coast area have had more than their businesses impacted. As they work to keep their stores open to provide much-needed recovery items, some owners and their families are dealing with flooded homes of their own.”

“As a long-time resident of the Houston area, this is the greatest disaster we have ever seen and we certainly appreciate all the help and support we receive during this trying time for our community,” said Stephen Stark, owner of Houston-area Sears Hometown and Outlet Stores locations. “We thank every individual in advance for their care and American Red Cross donation. We will get through this together as a community and a nation.”

For residents of Houston, they can visit their local Sears Hometown and Outlet Stores for help and assistance.

“The owners of our local stores pride themselves on their connection to the community,” said Will Powell. “The fact that the owner of our Houston store was working with us on how we could get needed supplies to the area before he was able to reach his own home speaks to commitment to the local community.”
