Championship Poconos Golf Course Launches First-Ever Golf Academy

The Country Club at Woodloch Springs is excited to announce a wide range of new offerings so that golfers of all levels can improve their game

Hawley, PA, Sept. 19, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- With golf season in full swing, championship Poconos golf course, The County Club at Woodloch Springs, is excited to launch its brand-new Golf Academy, which will feature expanded instruction offerings including: overnight golf school packages, increased junior camps, resort golf instruction activities, and precision club fitting. Staffed by a team of seasoned pros experienced in helping any golfer improve his or her game, the course is looking forward to its most successful year yet.

Recognized by GOLF Magazine as one of the finest courses in America, the 18-hole, par 72 course set on fern-carpeted forest, lush wetlands, and broad upland meadows has always garnered its fair share of attention. John Pillar, the PGA Director of Golf at Woodloch Springs, President of the Philadelphia Section PGA, and President of the Pocono Professional Golf Series, has been at the championship course since it first opened in 1992. Having just played in the US Senior Open, 20 years after first qualifying for the US Open, Pillar has tremendous experience under his belt that he is eager to share with players of all levels.

“Having worked at this course since the day it opened, it has always been my goal to ensure that our guests understand what a special place this is. It seemed only natural to expand our offerings so that we could bring even more golfers with varying levels of experience here. With our current team of pros bringing with them diverse backgrounds and experience combined with our new indoor performance studio, we know that we have the recipe for success with our new Golf Academy,” said Pillar.

The Golf Academy is being headed by Jason Kuiper, PGA Director of Instruction for Woodloch Springs. His love for the game brought him to the industry in 2003 when he worked at Shawnee Inn and Golf Resort in Pennsylvania. It was there that he took on different roles from service staff all the way up to teaching professional golf before moving to Florida in 2008 to work at Orange Lake Resort in Kissimmee. As the Head Teaching Professional at The McCord Golf Academy there, he has worked his way through the PGA program obtaining Class A membership in 2011.

Another key player of the Golf Academy team is Evan Kussoff, newly appointed as the Biomechanics and Golf Fitness Specialist there. A recent graduate of Penn State University, Mr. Kussoff received his Bachelor’s Degree in Kinesiology. He interned and then went on to work for PGA Tour Biomechanics expert, Coach Joey Diovisalvi, in Jupiter, FL. There, he experienced firsthand what goes into training players of all abilities, including some of the most elite players on tour such as Keegan Bradley, Rickie Fowler and Dustin Johnson. Mr. Kussoff  has trained competitive amateurs, long drive competitors, and professionals from numerous tours, helping them understand the importance of knowing their golf body in order to prevent injury while improving their game. During the past two golf seasons, Evan worked in Naples, FL where he helped former PGA Tour/Champion's Tour player and longtime CBS announcer Bobby Clampett open the world headquarters of Impact Zone Golf as well as the IZG Academy at Tiburon Golf Club. At Impact Zone Golf, Evan became certified as an Advanced Level 1 Impact Zone Golf Instructor while also heading the Biomechanics Department, teaching Yoga for Golfers classes, and coaching IZG Junior Golf Programs.

In addition to the plethora of outdoor options that the Poconos course offers, The Clubhouse at Woodloch Springs has undergone many renovations in the past year, with the Pro Shop getting a makeover and adding an indoor performance studio. Complete with a 9- and 18-hole course simulator and virtual driving range, golfers now have the opportunity to improve their games during the off-season or even during inclement weather throughout the year.
