Verizon Sweeps Mobile Performance Awards in Dallas for Fourth Consecutive Time, Per New RootMetrics Report

Latest report reveals excellent network reliability from carriers across the metro area

Bellevue, WA, Oct. 25, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- According to a new report from RootMetrics®, the independent source for real-world mobile performance comparison, Verizon sweeps the RootScore awards for the fourth time in a row in Dallas. Notably, the 2nd Half 2017 Dallas Metro RootScore Report shows Verizon claiming outright wins in five out of the six categories for the second consecutive testing period. Although Verizon ultimately takes the network reliability award outright, all the major carriers provide excellent network reliability with RootScores of 97.8 and above.

When it comes to data speeds in Dallas, T-Mobile records the fastest median download speed at 23.1 Mbps, allowing subscribers to download a high-definition TV show in less than four minutes. T-Mobile also records the fastest median upload speed at 17.4 Mbps, meaning uploading a photo to social media would take about two seconds on the network.

“The mobile performance race in Dallas is as hot as a Texas summer, with the carriers are battling it out to provide a stellar mobile experience to consumers in metro area,” said Annette Hamilton, RootMetrics director. “Verizon claims the mobile performance crown across the board and our latest testing reveals outstanding network reliability from all the major carriers, an important factor when consumers depend on their mobile devices for work, entertainment, and keeping in touch.”

This is the fourteenth time RootMetrics has tested the mobile networks in Dallas and issued findings for the metro area. RootScore Reports provide a scientific, independent, consumer-focused assessment of mobile network performance.

Mobile Performance You Can Depend on

Reliability and speed are crucial to a consistently good mobile experience. RootMetrics indicates performance in these key areas with its network reliability category, a combination of results from data, call, and text tests; and its network speed category, which examines results across testing of data transfers, downloading email, and web/app tasks. Verizon takes the Network Reliability RootScore Award outright, which the carrier has won or shared for five testing periods in a row. Verizon also claims the Network Speed RootScore Award outright for third straight testing period.

Data Performance

The data performance category reflects how well networks perform in downloading and uploading data, performing email tasks, and downloading files that approximate loading typical webpages or apps. Verizon earns the top spot outright in the data performance category for the third time in a row; however, T-Mobile records the fastest median download and upload speeds in the Dallas metro area.

Call and Text Performance

Call and text capabilities are fundamental to a strong mobile experience. Call performance testing is based on how reliably each network can place and maintain calls, while text performance measures how reliably and quickly consumers can send and receive text messages. Verizon wins the Call Performance RootScore Award outright, while the text performance category results in a four-way tie for the fourth time in row.

Comprehensive Testing

To evaluate the mobile experience in Dallas, RootMetrics conducted tests across all hours of the day and night from September 7 through September 15. Using smartphones purchased off the shelf at carrier stores, tests were conducted indoors at 178 locations and while driving 4,238 miles. For details about RootMetrics testing, see the methodology section of the RootMetrics website.
