American Greetings Gallery W Celebrates Binary Beauty with New Exhibit

“Observed and Imagined” Show Features Eva Kwong and Eric Rippert

Cleveland, OH, Nov. 29, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Influenced by their surroundings, backgrounds and personal interests, Eva Kwong and Eric Rippert transform observations into unique expressions of art. “Observed and Imagined,” the upcoming exhibit at Gallery W, the public art gallery located on the ground floor of American Greetings Creative Studios world headquarters, showcases the pair’s shared devotion to duality. The interconnection of inspiration between Kwong’s sculpting and Rippert’s photography and painting allows their pieces to play off each other to create an environment that is dreamlike and cinematic. The show will be on display from Thursday, December 7 through Friday, January 26, 2018, and the public is invited to the opening reception from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, December 7, 2017.

Spending her teenage years living in New York City after moving from Hong Kong with her family, Kwong credits her bicultural upbringing for “the aptitude to see the world from different angles.”

“My work is a way of understanding myself, the world within and around me,” said Kwong. “I seek the interconnections between people and things in this world, the similarities as well as the differences. I am interested in the concept of ‘one in many and the many in one.’”

Like Kwong, Rippert lived in New York City before relocating to Ohio for an esteemed collegiate teaching career and draws inspiration from the dichotomy of “introspective examination and external reality check.”

“Using mixed media, I combine the characteristics of poignant memory, conceptual awareness, and sardonic recollection in order to trigger an inner understanding and facilitate outward consciousness,” said Rippert. “What I am most interested in sharing with the viewer is a sensation more so than a statement.”

The opening reception will feature the harmonic sounds of the award-winning Uno Lady - One Woman Choir. “Uno Lady” Christa Ebert’s unique musical style is haunting, captivating – and recently earned her a grant from Cleveland’s Panza Foundation for local, independent musicians to allow artists “the freedom to pursue their craft with the best tools and opportunities possible.”
