LogistiCare is National Sponsor for Kidney Walk

Non-emergency medical transportation broker will participate in 23 National Kidney Foundation Kidney Walk events in 2018

Atlanta, March 01, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- LogistiCare, the nation’s largest non-emergency medical transportation broker, today announced its national sponsorship for the Kidney Walk, a nationwide program of National Kidney Foundation (NKF), a non-profit organization dedicated to  the awareness, prevention and treatment of kidney disease.

In honor of March being National Kidney Month, LogistiCare is renewing its longstanding commitment to provide monetary support and additional benefits to patients suffering from kidney disease and other illnesses. In the past four years, LogistiCare employees formed Kidney Walk teams that raised and donated a total of nearly $400,000 from operations centers across the country. This year, the company has set a goal of raising $165,000, which would be its highest one year total to date.

“LogistiCare has been a valued Kidney Walk partner for many years,” said Krystn Kuckelman, vice president of event development, National Kidney Foundation. “Their fundraising efforts and participation in Kidney Walks across the country accelerates our mission and allows us to provide high quality education, programs and services to individuals affected by kidney disease.”

According to statistics from NKF, more people die from kidney disease each year than breast and prostate cancer combined. High blood pressure and diabetes are the main causes of chronic kidney disease (CKD). Almost half of individuals with CKD also have diabetes and/or self-reported cardiovascular disease (CVD).  People of African American, Hispanic, Native American, Asian or Pacific Islander descent are at increased risk for developing the disease.  African Americans are 3 times more likely than Whites, and Hispanics are nearly 1.5 times more likely than non-Hispanics to develop end stage renal disease (kidney failure).

“Dialysis patients represent one of the largest populations we serve,” said Jeff Felton, LogistiCare CEO. “As we expand our relationship, our goal will be to increase fundraising efforts for the National Kidney Foundation and help them inform public audiences about the importance of preventive care for a disease that affects 30 million American adults.”

The company is set to participate in fundraising walks in approximately two dozen major U.S. cities from March through December 2018. Last year, approximately 2,300 LogistiCare employees raised more than $155,000, surpassing the company’s previous record of $129,000 in 2016.

“As our company has grown, we have focused efforts on aligning our workforce with the people we serve”, said Leslie Mueller, senior vice president of operations at LogistiCare and committee chair of the company’s NKF partnership. “Our employees are very proud to support the foundation and our joint mission to educate, participate and fundraise. It is truly a team effort and you can feel the energy in all our operation centers as we kickoff our fundraising campaign each year.”
