Johnstown, PA, June 06, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Concurrent Technologies Corporation (CTC) was granted two subaward contracts worth a total of $1 million from Northeastern University, supporting the Army Research Laboratory.
The first subaward has a 12-month period of performance and will research and develop innovations in energy efficiency, ballistic engineering, and advanced de-contaminable and low observable coatings. Together, CTC, Northeastern University, and several other universities will perform research focused on engineered materials, materials by design, modeling of additive manufacturing techniques, and materials and strategic materials. These efforts will benefit the next generation of Army tactical shelters as well as Army air and ground vehicles.
The second subaward, also a one-year project, will investigate the cold spray additive manufacturing process to repair Army and other DoD air assets. This work is focusing on 7000 series aluminum alloy structural and non-structural components. This alloy series is used extensively in aircraft design due to is ideal high strength-to-weight ratio, but it is susceptible to corrosion and fretting damage, which is not easily repaired using conventional methods, often leading to high-cost and schedule replacement operations. CTC has made significant investments in cold spray and other additive manufacturing technologies.
