Nexamp Nears Completion of First New York Community Solar Portfolio

NYSEG customers in the Finger Lakes and Southern Tier regions eligible to enroll in community solar subscription services

NEWFIELD, N.Y., June 26, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Nexamp, Inc., a leading provider of solar energy solutions, has announced that its first group of community solar projects in New York State are now entering the final stages of construction. The three projects, totaling 7.5 megawatts, began construction in April and are slated for full commercial operations this August. Nearby residents and small businesses can expect to receive well over $2 million is electricity cost savings throughout the projects’ lifetimes.

NYSEG customers in the Southern Tier and Finger Lakes regions are eligible to benefit directly from the project through New York State’s Community Distributed Generation program. Under that program, utility customers may subscribe to Nexamp’s project and receive savings directly on their utility bills. Subscribers can earn 10 percent savings on their portion of the project for as long as they remain enrolled in Nexamp’s unique Solarize My Billprogram.

With no signup costs, no credit checks, and no annual contracts, Nexamp’s community solar subscription model simplifies the enrollment process and greatly expands access to the benefits of solar to ratepayers across the Empire State. Interested NYSEG customers in the Southern Tier and the Finger Lakes should visit www.SolarizeMyBill.com to learn more about how to opt in to Nexamp’s community solar services.

Once completed, the Millard Hill projects will consist of over 23,000 solar panels generating over 9 million kilowatt hours (kWh) per year. More than 1,000 NYSEG customers in Tompkins County and the surrounding area are expected to enroll in the project prior to commercial operations, to be joined by an additional 1,000 NYSEG customers in the Finger Lakes for additional Nexamp projects expected to come online by year end.

“Nexamp is on a mission to deliver meaningful savings to New York ratepayers, and our NYSEG portfolio represents a key step towards that goal,” Nexamp’s CEO, Zaid Ashai, said. “The Cuomo Administration has a clear and bold vision for achieving 50 percent renewable energy by 2030 and Nexamp intends to be a major piece of New York’s renewable energy success story.”

New York State has established itself as a national leader in advancing clean energy deployment and in May, Governor Cuomo announced that more than 2,400 solar projects have been installed or are under development in communities across the state. In addition to the Newfield projects, Nexamp is actively developing dozens of community solar projects internally, and continues to evaluate assets for acquisition across upstate New York.

Nexamp is expecting a rapid expansion of its New York workforce to meet growing consumer demand for savings in the burgeoning community solar market. Already an established presence in Massachusetts, the company is making substantial investments in several new geographies, including New York, Illinois, and Maryland.
