KIDS IN EL SALVADOR SUE TRUMP ADMINISTRATION: DETERRING ASYLUM THROUGH ENFORCEMENT IS UNCONSTITUTIONAL

Mother Files Lawsuit on Behalf of Her Three Children in El Salvador Who Were Kidnapped Attempting to Seek Asylum… Their Lives Are in Danger in El Salvador… However, Trump Administration Policies are Interfering With Their Right to Seek Asylum in the United States

Washington, DC., June 28, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- A new groundbreaking lawsuit filed against the Trump administration seeks declaratory judgment from the Court to forbid the government from using “deterrence” to interfere with legitimate asylum seekers entering the United States

Mike Donovan, President and CEO of Nexus Services, Inc. who has funded this lawsuit and others on behalf of parents separated from their children by ICE, said “This incredibly important legal action calls into question the heart of immigration policies designed to cause terror in a community of people already seeking refuge from unimaginable horrors in their home countries. Individuals have a right to seek asylum in the United States, and we will do everything we can to protect this sacred right for the three kids in this case and for all people trying to seek refuge in the United States.”

Mario Williams, President of Nexus Derechos Humanos Attorneys Inc. and attorney on this case, said “racist policies discriminating against Hispanic asylum seekers cannot stand. These people have human rights, and we intend to protect them.”

The lawsuit was filed Wednesday in the US District Court for the District of Columbia. Defendants include Attorney General Jeff Sessions, DHS Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen, Acting Commissioner of the US Customs and Border Patrol Kevin McAleenan, and Secretary of US Health and Human Services Alex Azar. The complaint was filed by the mother of three children, ranging in age from 11 – 16, who are asylum seekers who have not completed the process because of fear created by Trump administration immigration enforcement policies. This lawsuit is the first brought by asylum seekers outside the United States, seeking relief from the Courts to protect their rights to seek asylum.
