George Bikhazi, MD is Elected to the American Health Council’s Physician Board

NEW YORK, July 02, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The American Health Council recently elected George Bikhazi, MD to its Physician Board for his outstanding career in the medical field. Although Dr. Bikhazi retired as a professor last December, he wishes to provide comprehensive input to the medical field by practicing pediatric anesthesia care a few times a week at a general hospital in Miami, Fla.

As a child, Dr. Bikhazi wanted to emulate a successful humanitarian physician in his family, so he decided to pursue a career in the medical field.  He enrolled at the American University of Beirut in Beirut, Lebanon, and earned his medical degree in 1971. He immediately began a residency program in anesthesia at the American University of Beirut Medical Center and concluded the program in 1973. That same year, he began a second residency program in anesthesia at Jackson Memorial Hospital, an academic affiliate of the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. After he completed the program in 1974, he began a pediatric anesthesiology fellowship at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and finished the program in late 1975.

In 1977, Dr. Bikhazi became certified by the American Board of Anesthesiology, and again in 1993. His career quickly blossomed as he was named the director of pediatric anesthesia at Jackson Memorial Hospital in 1976. By 1980, he was also named director of clinical research at the hospital and simultaneously held both roles until 2001. In 2006, he took on the role of chief of division of anesthesia at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and earned the Clinical Care Improvement Award which is granted to only one department or division in the hospital each year. He held the title until 2014, and later that year, he was named chairman of the department of anesthesia at the American University of Beirut Medical Center. He simultaneously served as the editor-in-chief of the Middle East Journal of Anesthesiology and held both roles until 2016.

His impressive resume is a result of hard work, motivation and dedication to the well-being of his patients and trainees. Dr. Bikhazi is proud of his accomplishments as he was named among the Best Doctors and Top Anesthesiologists in America several times by the Consumers’ Research Council of America. To continue to expand his knowledge, he is a member of several organizations including the American Society of Anesthesiologists, the American Academy of Pediatrics, the International Anesthesia Research Society and the Society for Pediatric Anesthesia.

Dr. Bikhazi’s generosity leads him to donate his time to the Children’s Heart Center at the American University of Beirut Medical Center, supported by the Brave Heart Fund, a fundraising organization that aids children with congenital heart diseases at the Children’s Heart Center at the American University of Beirut Medical Center. In 2006, he volunteered to provide general medical assistance for victims of Hurricane Katrina who were displaced to a Catholic Charity housing complex in Memphis, Tenn. Dr. Bikhazi has held a long, rewarding career and looks forward to securing an administrative or executive position.
