American Airlines and Analogic Collaborate to Deploy Next-Generation Screening for Airport Checkpoints at New York’s John F. Kennedy (JFK) International Airport

American Airlines to Gift Units to TSA to Advance Airport Checkpoint Security

PEABODY, Mass., July 24, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Analogic, enabling the world’s medical imaging and aviation security technology, will premiere its next-generation computed tomography (CT) screening solution, ConneCT™, used at airport checkpoints, in the United States at Terminal 8 of New York’s John F. Kennedy Airport (JFK) today. The rollout of ConneCT is a collaboration between American Airlines and Analogic to expedite the distribution of advanced screening technologies to airport checkpoints in the United States.

The implementation at JFK will feature a ConneCT checkpoint scanner to be purchased from Analogic as part of a joint collaboration between American Airlines and Analogic. Additionally, ConneCT units will be placed at other American Airlines hubs later this year and by TSA as part of its plan to deploy checkpoint CT systems to U.S. airports. Analogic’s ConneCT has been demonstrated in the Middle East, Asia, and Europe. ConneCT was trialed at Japan’s Narita International Airport, is currently live-screening passengers at Amsterdam’s Schiphol International Airport, and now is being operated at JFK as the first U.S. live-screening site.

“At American, we are always looking at ways to invest in technology that raises the bar on global aviation security while improving the customer experience,” said American Airlines chief security officer, José Freig. “Our partnership with the TSA and Analogic Corporation will continue to transform aviation security by bringing state-of-the-art CT technology to the security checkpoint.”

“Our presence in such a major U.S. airport represents another significant milestone for Analogic, a longtime leader in aviation security,” said Mark Laustra, vice president, global business development and government relations at Analogic. “We identify the needs of the DHS and TSA to give them the solutions they need to fulfill their mission to protect the nation's transportation systems to ensure freedom of movement for people and commerce. We are honored to partner with American Airlines, a trailblazer in passenger safety and security, and are grateful for their help making this initial rollout possible. We are committed to working with them to roll out additional systems of ConneCT.”

TSA has identified the deployment of CT technology as a priority to address an ever-evolving global threat landscape. Administrator David P. Pekoske’s remarks to Congress on April 12, 2018 with regards to the President’s FY 2019 Budget Request for the TSA included the comment that, “CT is the most consequential technology available today for airport checkpoints worldwide.”

TSA and American will demonstrate the use of this technology to the media on July 24.

Following the completion of training protocols for TSA officers, Analogic’s solution will begin live-screening passengers later this month.
