MyPetDoc Alexa Skill Challenges Dr. Google With Artificial Intelligence-Powered Conversations About Pet Health

MyPetDoc allows pet parents to engage in two-way dialogue and get answers to  specific pet health questions on  their Alexa-enabled devices

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., July 26, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Vet24seven—a leader in pet health technology—announced today the launch of MyPetDoc, an Alexa skill that is the world’s first artificial intelligence (AI) “SmartVet.” Now pet parents with a pet health question can talk with MyPetDoc on Amazon Alexa and get veterinarian-backed answers to their concerns.

Once MyPetDoc has answered the pet parents’ questions, they can then choose to speak immediately with a licensed veterinarian for more guidance and advice.

“Pet owners with health questions often turn to Dr. Google, with disappointing results,” said Cal Lai, CEO of Vet24seven. “Dr. Google returns an overwhelming number of Web pages to read, when what pet owners really want is two-way dialogue about their specific pet with their specific problem. MyPetDoc listens, understands what you are asking, asks qualifying questions, and provides relevant responses.”

MyPetDoc takes advantage of more than 35,000 text conversations between hundreds of veterinarians and thousands of pet owners, building a very effective voice AI that helps pet parents address their critical pet concerns.

Diarrhea, vomiting, itchy skin, urinary issues, and eye conditions are the most common worries that are making pet owners anxious, according to the extensive proprietary data from interactions between pet parents and veterinarians. MyPetDoc’s voice AI on Amazon Alexa helps answer questions about these conditions and, ultimately, allows consumers to decide whether or not they want an immediate phone consultation with a veterinarian for additional information and advice. The veterinarian will already have the necessary background information from the MyPetDoc session, so the pet owner can just continue the conversation. All of this happens in the comfort of one’s home.

“MyPetDoc is the perfect combination of artificial intelligence and human intelligence,” said Dr. Ed Blach, DVM, MS, MBA, who serves as President & Chief Veterinary Officer of Vet24seven. “Pet owners first talk with MyPetDoc on Amazon Alexa, and then, they have the option to speak with a veterinarian immediately. The depth and mix of engagement is at the discretion of the pet owner, based on his or her needs.”

MyPetDoc is available now on Amazon Alexa-enabled devices and, in August, will launch on Google Assistant.

In the fall of 2018, MyPetDoc will expand its knowledge of  pet topics and provide information on additional species, such as small mammals, fish, exotics, birds, and horses, according to Lai. For more information, please visit AskMyPetDoc.com.
