2nd Watch Named a “Great Place to Work” for Third Consecutive Year

A survey completed in July 2018 by independent research and consulting firm Great Place to Work found that 85% of 2nd Watch employees believe their workplace is great

SEATTLE, Aug. 27, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- 2nd Watch, a cloud services provider, has been named a Great Place to Work for the third year in a row by Great Place to Work®, a global authority on high-trust, high-performance workplace cultures. Great Place to Work based its decision on surveys of 137 2nd Watch employees, of which 85% said their workplace is great and 87% said it’s “often or almost always” a great atmosphere.

Founded in 2010, 2nd Watch has become the largest independently owned US-based cloud-native service provider. An Amazon Web Services (AWS) Premier Partner and a Gold Azure Microsoft Partner, 2nd Watch has over 200,000 cloud instances under management and supports customers including Coca-Cola North America and Yamaha. In addition to the Great Place to Work recognition, 2nd Watch has earned several other awards recently. The firm was recognized for excellence in managed services by CRN and earned a spot on the CRN Tech Elite Solution Providers list as well as CRN’s Fast Growth 150 list. As well, Gartner positioned 2nd Watch in the Challengers category of its 2018 Magic Quadrant for Public Cloud Infrastructure Managed Service Providers, Worldwide.

Over 10 million employees in 50 countries annually take the Great Place to Work Trust Index© Employee Survey, the organization’s proprietary research tool. The U.S. entity of the firm's global network, Great Place to Work® United States, offers management consulting and leadership training to U.S.-based organizations ranging from multinational corporations to small start-ups. It also produces the annual Fortune 100 Best Companies to Work For® list and the Best Small & Medium Workplaces list.

Companies reviewed by Great Place to Work are given ratings in six areas based on current employees’ feedback on an anonymous survey. These areas rate the quality of the company’s Challenges, Atmosphere, Rewards, Pride, Communication and Bosses. A result of 84%, for example, means that 84% of that company’s employees responded to the Trust Index Employee Survey by saying that they “Often,” “Almost Always” or “Sometimes” experience positive relevant behaviors in the category. 2nd Watch earned the following scores for 2018: Great Challenges - 92%, Great Atmosphere - 97%, Great Rewards - 93%, Great Pride - 96%, Great Communication - 91%, and Great Bosses - 90%. Additionally, 93% of survey respondents said that “people care about each other here.”

Great Place to Work asked 2nd Watch employees to share what’s unique about their workplace. Here are a few of the programs they mentioned:

  • 2nd Watch has a six-pillar employee program focused on wellness, empowerment, contribution, development, philanthropy and culture, and comradery. This program was implemented to entice employees to get active and get involved in the community on a consistent basis. It also was implemented to encourage employees to focus on their personal and career development.
  • Last year 2nd Watch participated in numerous philanthropic activities around the country, including donating gifts to kids during the holidays, feeding families at the Ronald McDonald house, raising money for Alzheimer's research, and building bikes for kids.
  • 2nd Watch has designed wellness programs for employees as well as their families and friends. The company sponsors employees for races that support community causes, and 2nd Watch has held brown-bag lunches about mindfulness. The company has also begun the process of opening a “zen den” in its largest office location, and wellness newsletters are sent out monthly to keep the subject front of mind and encourage employees to take care of themselves.
  • 2nd Watch offers extensive training opportunities to its employees, beginning with new-hire onboarding and continuing through education on new technologies. For each technical AWS and Azure certification that an employee earns, 2nd Watch pays out a certification bonus to the employee.

“Our belief is that happy and healthy people are more productive employees,” says Jeff Aden, co-founder and EVP of Marketing and Business Development at 2nd Watch. “In most companies–and this is especially true of tech companies–employees work very hard, often at the expense of time they could be spending with friends and family or participating in their community. We don’t think it has to be one or the other. We’ve attempted to continuously improve all of our benefits and to encourage employees to focus on their health, happiness and well-being, and the approach has paid off in terms of the quality of their work and customer success.”
