Barefoot Networks to Demonstrate Physical Network Visibility for Virtualized Data Centers at VMworld US

Barefoot Tofino™ with Barefoot SPRINT™ and Barefoot Deep Insight™ provide real-time visibility into underlay networks enabling delivery of peak performance and seamless operation of virtualized workloads

LAS VEGAS, Aug. 27, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- At VMworld Aug. 26-30 in Las Vegas, Nev., Barefoot Networks, a provider of high-performance and fully-programmable networking solutions, will demonstrate real-time network visibility with Barefoot Deep Insight collecting, storing and analyzing line-rate streaming telemetry data from a network built using Barefoot Tofino-powered Cisco Nexus® 3400 and Edgecore Wedge 100BF switches. The demo will showcase visualization and analytics of real-time telemetry data from the underlay network that is carrying traffic from virtualized vSphere workloads.

Gaining granular visibility into an underlay network that is carrying traffic from virtualized workloads is quite difficult, if not impossible, using traditional network performance monitoring solutions. Barefoot Deep Insight is the first network performance monitoring platform to provide full visibility into every packet in the network. With visibility of the underlay, network operators can improve operational efficiency of applications running in virtualized environment and root-cause application performance issues in real-time.

Barefoot SPRINT (Smart Programmable Real-time In-band Network Telemetry) and Barefoot Deep Insight deliver per-packet visibility at full line rate, providing a transparent view of the application traffic flows without generating any additional packets. Deep Insight consumes the real-time per-packet telemetry data from INT capable devices, then visualizes and analyzes it.

Network owners are now able to keep tabs on network performance by monitoring events and anomalies. This real-time view of the network allows for network owners to quickly triage any performance issues with virtual machines and isolate malfunctioning workloads or rogue VMs causing trouble so the network returns to top operational capacity.

The VMworld demo showcases real-time troubleshooting of an application performance degradation issue in a modern data center environment. The performance issue is caused by aggressor flows and Barefoot Deep Insight identifies those traffic flows as well as the failure symptoms of the affected flows. Attendees will get to see how Barefoot Deep Insight helps to pinpoint the location of queue build up and eventual packet drops exposing the four ground truths of network visibility. The network in the demo is built using Clos topology with multi-vendor switches powered by Barefoot Tofino. These include Cisco Nexus® 34180YC and Wedge 100BF switches running NX-OS and SONiC respectively. Both switches support P4-programmability and the Barefoot SPRINT feature.

Media, analysts and event attendees may see the live demo at Barefoot’s booth (#2714) at VMworld from Aug. 27-30. In addition, Barefoot will also be presenting at Tech Field Day Extra at VMworld US 2018 on Aug. 29 at 4PM in Las Vegas.
