Fall Brings Belmont Abbey College Recognition by U.S. News & World Report

Welcomes Largest Traditional Class Enrollment

Belmont, NC, Sept. 10, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Once again U.S. News & World Report has recognized Belmont Abbey College as one of the top Liberal Arts colleges in the South Region. In addition, the publication recognized the Abbey as one of the region’s top values and #3 for Best Undergraduate Teaching in the region. In an era when the majority of colleges are experiencing a decline in traditional student enrollment, Belmont Abbey College this year welcomed its largest incoming class and surpassed its all-time record for total traditional enrollment. Since 2004, the college has grown by 49%, making it one of the fastest growing private, non-profit, baccalaureate colleges in the United States.

“We are most grateful that U.S. News & World Report has again ranked Belmont Abbey College as one of the best colleges in the South,” said college president Dr. Bill Thierfelder. “It is recognition of our students’ ability to use reason, think logically, articulate their ideas and write with clarity. It is also a sign that our approach to educating the whole person in body, mind and soul is bearing fruit."

Belmont Abbey College received special recognition this year by U.S. News & World Report by ranking #3 in the region for its excellence in undergraduate teaching. This recognition given by peer college presidents, provosts and admissions deans identifies schools that have shown a strong commitment to the undergraduate learning experience. “The most important aspect of a college education is teaching individuals how to think well and know what it means to live a good life,” says Thierfelder. “This acknowledgement by our peers is a wonderful tribute to our exceptional faculty who have dedicated their lives to teaching excellence and helping students realize their full potential.”

Belmont Abbey College continues to find ways to make a private, Catholic, college affordable by freezing tuition, room and board and instituting a Four-Year Tuition Guarantee. In addition, the college has added new majors and hybrid (mix of online and in-class) courses to its curricular offerings.

Belmont Abbey College is committed to enhancing and improving its academic programs, a commitment that has yielded recognition from U.S. News & World Report in each of the past 10 years.
